LA SPCA is Still in the Need of Your Support : Help Save Animals

The Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LA/SPCA) still has a tough road ahead. Please consider donating to LA/SPCA, and help all those countless number of animals that have been devastated by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

New Orleans

December 20, 2005

The The Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LA/SPCA) (a private non-profit organization chartered in 1888) is in need of your support -more than ever.

As you may recall, LA/SPCA had recently commissioned a multi-agency assessment team to evaluate the state-of-animals in the city of New Orleans.

The aforementioned multi-agency assessment team that was so convened by the Louisiana SPCA to assess the state-of-animals in the city has reported back with its findings.

The team was to obtain a sense of the post-hurricane stray animal population and to determine the health condition thereof.

Based on the results reported by the above task force, LA/SPCA had announced the following action items:

  • Contracting with a high-volume, experienced humane trapper being provided by the Humane Society of the United States to manage a comprehensive 4-6 week program.
  • Triage trapped animals via humane trapping at the Animal Control facility.
  • Local sheltering partners such as Best Friends may take the animals to their facilities where they will hold them for a minimum of five-days to allow owners an opportunity to locate their pets.
  • All incoming animals are to be listed on petharbor.com to give owners an opportunity to locate their companion.
  • LA/SPCA is to launch an aggressive spay and neuter program and offer a rabies and microchipping drive to New Orleans' residents.

The above challenges are in addition to what LA/SPCA has been already doing for the welfare of animal population in New Orleans area.

Help LA/SPCA rescue pets and reunite them with their owners in the wake of Hurricane Katrina by digging deep and contributing to the LA/SPCA.

They need to not only build a temporary shelter right now, they also need to create a fund to establish a permanent building and replace all of their facilities destroyed during the floods. Considering the facts that the LA/SPCA's buildings and several vehicles were completely destroyed in the hurricanes' aftermath, LA/SPCA is in need for at least $4 million, plus the cost of land.

Please Donate Directly to LA/SPCA: When you make a direct donation to LA/SPCA, you would be directly benefiting the animals displaced in N.O. region. They are at the ground zero, they have boots on the ground.

To contribute to LA/SPCA, please go to the LA/SPCA website. To mail a contribution, please send it to: Louisiana SPCA, P.O. Box 127, Mandeville, LA. 70470.
